Sherry Bernard -Executive Director of Social Responsibility for the YMCA of Greater Houston

Sherry Bernard currently serves as the Executive Director of Social Responsibility for the YMCA of Greater Houston. In her current role, Sherry leads Y Teen L.I.F.E. (Leadership, Inspiration, Fellowship and Education) programs and initiatives serving over 10,000 youth and young adults annually. Y Teen L.I.F.E. seeks to provide life changing experiences for Houston’s teens through leadership development, service learning and college/career readiness opportunities.

Sherry’s career with the Y originated from an internship with the University of Houston’s Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) in 2006. Upon graduation, Sherry continued her Y career as the Teen and Community Outreach Coordinator, where she developed a passion for teen work. A champion for social equity, her personal mission is to eliminate barriers and create opportunities for youth from all backgrounds to achieve, thrive and serve as leaders in their communities.

The Y is a worldwide organization and operates in 119 countries. The Y of Greater Houston has 37 centers and over 300 program locations serving eleven counties helping to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

In addition to being a Certified Nonprofit Professional, Sherry holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Public Administration through the University of Houston.
