In 2026, Clarinda, Iowa, and Tamana, Japan, celebrated the 30th anniversary of their Sister City partnership, commemorating three decades of friendship and exchange between the two communities. Formally established in 1996, the relationship grew from educational and cultural connections that began in the late 1980s, including student exchanges and Tamana Girls High School’s participation in Clarinda’s Glenn Miller Festival. Over the years, the partnership has supported exchanges in education, the arts, and commerce, creating opportunities for students and community members to experience one another’s cultures. The anniversary celebrated three decades of international friendship while reaffirming the communities’ shared commitment to continued educational, cultural, and civic exchange.
