Member Spotlight: Lexington, Kentucky

Lexington’s Sister Cities program continues to exemplify the power of citizen diplomacy through vibrant international partnerships and meaningful cultural exchange. During the city’s 250th Anniversary celebration, Lexington proudly welcomed 36 delegates from its Sister Cities in France, Ireland, Japan, England, and its Friendship City in South Korea. Their visit added an international spirit to the milestone celebration and highlighted the lasting friendships that have grown over decades. Through community events, cultural activities, and warm hospitality from local volunteers, Lexington demonstrated how these global partnerships strengthen the city in meaningful and lasting ways.

That global connection is especially visible in Lexington’s youth and university exchanges. This year, 68 students participated in exchanges with Sister Cities like Newmarket, Shinhidaka, and Deauville. Partnerships with the University of Kentucky remain strong, with international students studying in Lexington and UK students interning, teaching, and studying abroad. Programs like racing internships, ESL courses, and tourism exchanges continue to strengthen both cultural and professional ties. From welcoming international interns to leading a delegation to Newmarket, England, Lexington’s program continues to create hands-on opportunities that build cultural understanding and lifelong connections.
