Why I Am Running for the Board of Directors

I am seeking a seat on the Sister Cities International Board of Directors because I believe deeply in the power of cities to lead globally through connection, culture, and collaboration. At a time when global challenges increasingly intersect at the local level, sister city relationships provide a critical platform for diplomacy that is rooted in people, not politics.

Throughout my career, I have seen how meaningful international partnerships can strengthen communities whether through cultural exchange, educational opportunities, or shared learning between local governments. I am particularly interested in helping Sister Cities International continue to evolve as a modern, relevant network that supports cities in navigating today’s global landscape.

I bring both a practitioner’s perspective and a strategic lens. I understand how cities operate internally, the constraints they face, and the opportunities they can leverage through international engagement. I am committed to advancing a vision of sister cities that is inclusive, community-driven, and aligned with the priorities of today’s cities. Serving on the Board would be an opportunity to contribute to an organization that has shaped global municipal diplomacy for decades, while helping position it for the future.

Bio

I currently serve as Chief of Staff to the City Manager of Austin, Texas, where I oversee a diverse portfolio that includes international relations, arts and culture, climate and resilience, equity and inclusion, and innovation. In this role, I lead the City’s global engagement strategy, strengthening Austin’s international relationships and expanding partnerships that advance cultural exchange, education, and community connection.

My experience with sister cities is both strategic and operational. I have supported and advanced international partnerships through formal agreements, delegation exchanges, and program development that centers cultural diplomacy and people-to-people connections. I have worked closely with our local sister city organizations and committees, international consulates, and global networks to align municipal priorities with community-driven engagement. I have also played a key executive role in hosting international delegations, facilitating cross-cultural dialogue, and positioning cities as global collaborators.

Beyond my municipal role, I am the founding member of the International Network of Asian Public Administrators that connects emerging and senior Asian leaders across countries to share best practices and strengthen global governance. My work consistently focuses on building bridges between cities, cultures, and institutions through thoughtful, inclusive engagement.

I hold a Master of Public Administration and am currently pursuing a PhD focused on public policy, administrative systems, and equity. My career has been grounded in public service, with a commitment to fostering partnerships that are authentic, sustainable, and impactful.

Skills

I bring strategic leadership in municipal governance and deep experience in international relations and sister city programming. I have the ability to translate global partnerships into meaningful local impact. I am skilled in building relationships across government, nonprofit, and international stakeholders, and I have experience designing and implementing cross-cultural initiatives. My leadership approach is values-driven and grounded in equity, collaboration, and accountability.
